100th Day

On the 100 day of school 5B visited their buddies and made glasses, hats, artwork etc. They celebrated in Mrs.Sieves room. They celebrate the 100 day of school because it is showing dedication by going to school for 100 days. Buddies and Mrs.Barnes class worked together make glasses, hats or even do fun activities like 100 day artwork or counting to 100. Rhadi says “it was fun to work with are buddies.” In the end Mrs.barnes class and their buddies had a fun day and could almost say they were halfway through the school year.

100th day has come again!

100th Day Has Come Again!
By: Madeline

On January 30th, 2017, Mrs. Barnes’s 5th grade class went to Mrs. Sieve’s kindergarten class to celebrate the 100th day of school with their kindergarten buddies. It was an event that was action packed.
The celebration lasted for around an hour and everything happened fast. Talking and coloring could be seen. During this, 5th graders made crowns and sunglasses with their buddies. The crowns and sunglasses were colored by kindergarteners and fifth graders and each crown or sunglasses had the number 100 on them. Also, some students finished designing a gumball machine with the pairs of 10 gumballs each different colors. This event was one of the times other than book shopping that everybody got to spend time with their buddies. One person, Macy said “ I had a lot of fun with my buddy”, after talking about the experience.  Another person, Mrs. Barnes recalled the experience saying “My favorite activity was making the gumball machine”.
The event was short but was something that was not only untouchable, but unforgettable. The next time something like this will happen is not known but would hopefully be like this one and would most likely be a big hit. What do you think this event will be and when should it happen?

Hot Cocoa Party with Kindergarten  Buddies
                                    By: Siqi

It was December 20th, 2016, a cold winter day, PERFECT for a hot cocoa party. In the 5B classroom, there was a chatter of excitement as they waited for the party to begin, it was a wonder about how they did their classes properly. Then, finally, the moment came, Mrs. Barnes called for her students to line up, 5B quickly, but silently, lined up and walked through the hallways (OK, so maybe there was some sort of chatter of meeting their buddies, but other than that, it is a pretty good transition). As they approach the KS classroom, they saw their buddies curiously sitting on the carpet, the pairs all voted on the movies, the choices were “The Grinch” “Charlie Brown’s Christmas” “Santa Coming to Town” and “The Snowman”, “The Grinch” won the voting in a landslide, BUT the teachers (Mrs. Sieve and Mrs. Barnes) couldn't start the DVD, so they go on the next on the list, “Charlie Brown’s Christmas”, some students groaned Because the majority of people voted for “The Grinch”, the teachers passed out some coloring sheets that 5B had prepared before the party started. As they drank their cocoa, colors the blank paper, and watch the movie, there was a great enjoyment in the KS classroom, but, some students aren’t totally satisfied with this party, 2 students, Siqi Xu and Ian Hansell, shared a buddy, but their buddy had went on vacation early and there is no extra Kindergarteners, But still enjoyed it. It was way too fast when the teachers told them to line up. As 5B dragged their feet to the doorway, they still have to admit--it was the best party ever.

Kindergarten Buddies Programs Robots

Kindergartners Programs Robots By Siqi

It was November 21, 2016, 5B (Mrs. Barnes’ 5th graders) and KS (Mrs. Sieve’s Kindergarten class) prepare to go to Glenridge’s Makerspace. As the 5th graders walk in, they noticed there was 2 types of robots set up in the Makerspace and the hallway, the Ozobot in the hallway, and the Osmo Tangram in the Makerspace. The Ozobot follows lines and patterns to do certain things, and the Osmo Tangram is a shape building game where you have to install an application and it will locate the location of the tangrams to complete patterns and levels, When KS came in, the 2 teachers (Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Sieve) divided the pairs of buddies into groups, but still making sure that the kindergartners are with their buddies, They would make a switch every 20-30 minutes so everyone will get a turn on the type of robot. These robots are really interactive with kindergartners which is why the teachers organized this in the first place, Osmo Tangram helps kindergartners learn their shapes and patterns, and the Ozobot helps kindergartners learn the lines and colors. The whole organization went pretty well. “It went… Well”, well, of course, no one has a perfect buddy that would behave all the time would they??!! Wow!! Lets hope all of this programming helps kindergartners AND 5th graders in the future!!
