April blog-Charactor Banquet- Allison

It was April 21, 2017. As people came into the classrooms they all looked very interesting with all of their costumes. Today was the character banquet. 5th graders dressed up as characters from fantasy books they recently read. They would come to school in their costumes,  then after recess they would meet in the cafeteria to have their banquet. Each fifth grader would bring a treat to go with their character like if someone was being Harry Potter they might bring butter beer or chocolate frogs. Everyone was excited for the banquet later in the day.

Hours later……            The bell rang and the 5th graders lined up excited to go inside. When they walked in it looked like a party. With plates, silverware, and decorations. Mrs. Barnes said “Find the spot with your name on it and sit down. When they found their tables everyone looked around. The 5th graders had never had anything like this. There were brownies, cookies, drinks, and dinner foods. There was even one table that had pizza, bread, and chicken wings! When everyone got settled down the parents started asking questions about the characters. When the banquet ended everyone talked to each other about what characters they saw and the foods. Allison said “That was cool, hopefully we have another event like that.” Over all they had a great time and enjoyed it. Everyone left the building with a smile one their face and told their family about the exciting event that happened today.

100 word challenge by Allison

It was almost our turn in line we were waiting to go through the wall. Every year the wall opens at the kingdom museum. This was no ordinary wall. Besides the fact that you can go through it, inside the wall there is a magical unicorn that let’s you see the future. Each year it’s a different thing in the wall. Like last year it was a bunny that let you grant one wish. The lines get so crazy that they go all the way down the building. But we came a day early. “Next in line”!

Musical Parts by Allison

It was in mid March and today was an exciting day for the whole fifth grade. Every Year for fifth grade they had a musical. This musical was the great nursery rhyme disaster! Today they were going to get their musical parts back. They were all meeting in Mrs. Scotino’s class. They all sat down and waited until everyone got quiet. As Mrs. Kelton opened her mouth everyone looked to nervous. This is what everyone was waiting for.

“Little Miss Muffet shares between Sophie and Madeline” Madeline got up to get her script from Mrs. Barnes but Sophie wasn't there because she was on vacation. Madeline said “ I was happy but shocked at the same time”. For hey diddle diddle the spoon was Ava and the dish was Allison. Ava said “ I was so excited because I got paired with a friend. But on the other hand some people were disappointed with their parts. Like Christian who got one of the dancers in the queen of hearts. He said “ I was excited because I thought I was going to get the part I wanted but I didn’t. As soon as everyone got their parts back the other two classes started heading back. “ Mrs. Mcqueen’s class line up here and Mrs. Barnes over here”. The teachers said. Everyone was excited to rehearse their parts next music class.

100 Word Challenge By Allison

Lights, Camera, Action! We were making final touches to the performers before the performance started. The musical was Hamilton, The Scyhlar Sisters. One of my favorite things about it is the beautiful dresses, and of course I like the best is mine. It’s brown and white with flowers on it. Although the musical is great, one thing that is hard about it is memorizing the words, the tempos and tunes are tiring! Also I get worried about falling off or on the stage since we’re so close, the moving around and the high heels makes it worse! Well gotta go!

Clay Coils- Allison

It was in February at Glenridge Elementary. 5-B had just finished math and they were heading to Art class. As they walked in they filled up with excitement! On the board in said snake coils. Mrs. Oliver said “ Today we are going to be making clay coils! She explained all the different kinds of coils according to grade. For example kindergarten learns how to make just basic snake coils. But on the other hand fifth grade gets to make coils in any shape you want, you can also make the clay into any pattern. She gave a demonstration on it also. “ So get started!” She said.

All around the room there were different patterns and sizes of the clay sculptures. Some of them were wide and some were small. On the sculptures there were lot’s of designs like braids, twists, snail coils, and just regular coils. “BRLLIINGG!” the bell went as people were making their final touches. “All right let’s clean up and we’ll head out outside” Mrs. Oliver said. After everything was where it was before, 5-B lined up for recess. “I can’t wait to glaze next week!” Allison said.

Siqi's Last Day by Ava and Allison

Siqi’s Last day

Today was the saddest day of 5B’s life. Today was the day at Glenridge Elementary that beloved
Siqi Xu left. She left to go to China because her dad got a  job there. It is January 6, 2017 and 5B decided to throw a surprise party for Siqi..

Ava and Allison says “ We are devastated, , Siqi was a treasure to America and to 5B. We miss her slime, cat, and minecraft stories. One day she would say she snuck playing minecraft at night and the other day she would say her slimes did not work”.. Sophie said “ Siqi is so good and i’m sad that she left”. Madeline said “ I think she is going to make make lots and lots of friends because she’s nice”.

As you can see everyone loved that good old Siqi.

She was a priceless gem when she came to this clayton school, Glenridge elementary .

Noevember news story by Allison

It was in early November at Glenridge elementary.Today 5-B was going to Spanish as they walked in their faces lightened with joy. Rows of sugar skulls were laid out on the table from the previous class. But now it was 5-B’s turn to make them. Sra. Kennerly called groups of people up to make the sugar skulls while the other kids did a crossword puzzle. But sadly some people had to wait till tomorrow because they ran out of sugar.

One day later……..     Blue! Pink! Orange! Yellow! Purple! So many different colors to decorate with. The kids who had made their sugar skulls were decorating while the kids who hadn’t, started today. There was a lot going on in the room, decorating, crossword puzzles, and even Mafia. But that didn’t seem to work out, let’s just say Mafia’s not the best game to play in Spanish. There were so many different designs on the skulls. Swirls, loops, dots, squiggles, and much more. When everyone finished they all played this game where 2 people would go out of the room while an anonymous person hid under a big cloth and the two people would guess who it is by asking questions about that person, of course in Spanish though. But it all came to a stop when Mrs. Barnes approached the door.

People were sad that Spanish had ended. A fifth grader named Allison said “I wish everyday was like this!”

Socks In Class

                                              Socks in class

It was October 24, 2016 at Glenridge Elementary School.
Today was Socktober! If you paid a dollar you would get to wear socks in class.

Everyone was rushing over to Mrs. Barnes saying “Here’s my dollar!” so loudly it seemed like they were screaming from all the way across the country. Luckily most people remembered to bring their dollar.
Then there were the people who forgot their dollar with sad looks on their faces. But it looked like everyone was having a good time. As the 5th graders went around in circle up I started wondering if they could they their socks to specials too.

Once they finished Mrs. Barnes said “You probably are going to need your shoes for specials” They all moaned and groaned but still stayed silent. Maybe next time they might wear pajamas for the next Socktober

News Story by Allison

   Kindergarten Buddies
It was September 8, 2016 5B was walking into Ms. Sieve’s classroom ready to meet their kindergarten buddies! When everybody got inside 5B was looking at KS and KS was looking at 5B. When the fifth graders got their buddies Anna ran to the bookshelves and said “Hi, my favorite books are biscuit books, they’re really really fun! She said with her mouth full of crackers. “Ok” Allison said. “Which book do you want to read?” And of course she chose the biscuit books. Everyone kept on reading until it was time to go. “Bye!” all the kindergarteners and fifth graders said. The fifth graders rushed into line with excitement on their faces ready to teach their first Claymo lesson.
This is what other people thought of kindergarten buddies.
Claire: “I think that kindergarten buddies went good, she was a little shy at first though”
Ava: “It went well because I got who I wanted”
Sophie: “It went well”
