Eliot, Robotics Convention

The Robotics Convention
                                                   By Eliot

On one rainy but exciting morning, the Glenridge 5th grade got to a robotics convention. This was a once in a lifetime chance since this was the last time the convention was going to be in Saint Louis.

The 5th graders got on the bus and rode to the robotics convention at The America Center. When the 5th graders got there the kids in XL in the other grades were already there. Then the fifth graders divided into 16 groups of three or four students with one adult in each group. The adults handed out the lanyards to the 5th graders so they could get into the convention.

Once everyone entered the convention, all the groups went in different directions to look at different booths. Some groups went to see the robotics competitions. Clayton High School had a team called RoboHounds 4500. They had a booth in the pits where they showed the fifth graders how they built their robot. After the RoboHounds were done explaining, the groups had to leave to go back to school, Sara said" I was excited to see the RoboHounds", Adam said " It was fun and I got to learn a lot about robots", Liam W. said "It was nice to be in small groups", Ava Said " It was fun and I liked all the free stuff."

The magic wall
                                                 By Eliot

One afternoon two friends were walking and the two friends names were Rick and James. Suddenly Rick asked James to run into the wall to see what would happen. But neither of them new that the wall was enchanted and who ever would run into the wall would get stuck and turn to stone. So James ran as fast as he could and when he reached the wall he did not smash into it, but ran through it, but as he was  going through the wall he got stuck halfway and started turning to stone. Everyone walks past but looks.

The Brown bear and the camera competition

One beautiful day a brown bear was taking a picture with his camera for a competition. The bear was worried that he would not have a good picture to turn into the competition. He was so stressed that he said it was to hard so he pouted home and then he was about to quit until he saw a family of deer playing so the bear grabbed his camera and took the shot and then he turned in his picture in and so he waited. A week later he got his big competition results, his picture was in first place.

Valentine's Day, Eliot

Valentine's Day

It was a nice evening on February 14, 2017 at Glenridge Elementary and the 5th graders were finishing up reading workshop so they could have their Valentine’s party.

Once the 5th graders finished cleaning up, they lined up to go to the Gym because that is where the 5th graders were having their party. Once 5th grade got to the Gym each class was assigned to a station to play at.

There were 4 stations: stacking candy hearts where the 5th graders got to see who can stack the highest. At the second station, the 5th graders did the cake walk but for lollipops where the 5th graders walk in a circle and then when the music stops Mrs. Miller would pull a number from 1 to 15 and whoever was standing on that number got a lollipop. At the third station, the 5th graders made bubble gum machines with a plastic sphere that holds gumballs then we put the spheres on a cup and then the 5th graders could eat the bubble gum.  At the last station, the 5th graders got to decorate cupcakes with different kinds of frosting and sprinkles, and got to color bookmarks.
After the 5th graders were done with all the stations, they danced to music. Then everyone went back to their classrooms for dismissal.

    5B’s Sugar Skulls

Day 1:

5B a 5th grade class was down by the Spanish room at glenridge elementary in mid November waiting to go inside. When 5B went in the room they saw some of 5S students making their sugar skulls so they new it was  the thing that they got to do that was really fun, sugar skulls!

Señora Kennerly, the school Spanish teacher, told 5B students to sit on the carpet and that she would talk to them in a moment. After 5S students left, Señora Kennerly explained to 5B students that they were making sugar skulls today.

In the classroom there were 4 tables and one table was for the sugar skull making, the other three tables were for working on the crossword, and the rest of the people sat on the carpet because the table where they were making sugar skulls was where they originally sat. As 5B was working on the crossword Señora Kennerly called up some of 5B students to make their sugar skull. After a few students made their sugar skull Señora Kennerly announced that she did not have enough sugar to make more. The people who did not get  to do their sugar skull would have to do it the next day.

Day 2:

5B was lined up at the Spanish door waiting to go in. When they got inside the room Señora Kennerly told the students that those who didn’t get to do their sugar skulls yesterday get to do it today. The students who already made their sugar skulls get to decorate them. At the end of Spanish class, 5B walked back to their classroom.
Day 3:

5B was waiting outside of the Spanish room on a D day. Señora greeted 5B in and told the students to sit on the carpet and she told the students of 5B that at the end of spanish that they should take their sugar skulls. Then she told the students that didn’t decorate their sugar skull that they would do it today. The students went to the two back tables in the room, after Señora Kennerly told the rest of the class what they were doing she told the group that was decorating on how they were going to decorate without breaking the bag. When the time was up Señora Kennerly lined 5B up so that the teacher could pick them up.
Liam Ferguson said “It was fun and a challenging project to do”

                                     Art   class
                                                                     By Eliot

It was a B day - basically how the school organizes our specials.  B day is an art day.   So after math and discovery the  class (5B) went downstairs to the bottom floor and lined up at the art room door.  Mrs. Oliver, the art teacher, greeted us as we came into the art room.  She always says, “Good morning!” or “How are you doing?” or “Hi.”

The class sat down at their tables and then when Mrs. Oliver walked into the room she told us what we were going to do for the lesson, and the lesson was creating linoleum designs and then printing the linoleum  design with ink on a piece of paper.    Mrs. Oliver showed us how to create a design and transfer the design from the paper to the linoleum.  So once the class finished their designs they gathered around the table and watched Mrs. Oliver carve out her linoleum design and teach  the class how to do that. So then the class went back to their tables and took the tool Mrs. Oliver used to carve out her linoleum piece.

So Mrs. Oliver told the class not to carve towards us and keep our non-carving hand behind the carving hand so that we would not hurt ourselves, since the carving tool was really sharp.  So the class started carving and some children were still making their design for their linoleum piece.

So the class carved  and carved and carved until Mrs. Oliver  said it was time to clean up so the class finished what they were on and  put their materials away  and put their linoleum pieces in the center of the table that the children sat at.  Mrs. Oliver dismissed each table to go outside to the playground for recess.

Evan said that it was really fun carving, Ian said that it was fun because it was satisfying, Cha Cha said that it was really fun because she got to use a sharp tool, and Adam said that it was the best art class ever!

Family Meets Wizards news story

       Family meets Wizards

September 11th,It was an exciting day, nice and warm it was a nice day to go to Harry Potter World. Me and my family went to the entrance and went to go get wands.

I first picked sirius black's wand and my sister didn’t want one there so as we went to the hogwarts stores and we found more wands and wands that no wizard had picked. My sister got Hermione’s wand and I got the wands that no wizard has picked. So the wand that I picked before my sister’s wand was switch with my wand that I didn’t want so she had Hermione’s wand and I had my own wand.

Next me and my family went to get candy and butter beer, butterbeer is a sweet juice like drink that has a whip cream like foam. So me and my mom and brother went to go get candy while my dad and sister went to go get butterbeer. At the store me and my mom got chocolate frogs every flavor beans and M&Ms so when we finished my sister saw the chocolate frog she whined that she didn’t get one but I told her that she got every flavor beans but she didn’t care. Me and my family tried the butterbeer that my sister and dad got, it tastes really sweet and tart.

After that we did magic with our wands, the way of how it works is there is a sensor that senses the movement of the wand because there is a sensor on the wand so it is very fun because there is a lot of tricks that you can do.

Me and my family went on rides it was very fun I went on two scary rides and one very fun ride it went very fast.My sister said tht it was the best time ever! It was the best day ever!
